In the basement of my office building is a huge food court. There are about 20 different vendors, but I am usually drawn to the same one. They make a mean spicy Thai basil chicken over rice (pad kra pao gai – ผัดกระเพราไก่) that is so hot that I start loving the sunny side up egg that they throw into the deal, just to cool down my burning lips and give my nose a break from running. It is simply delicious.
Time and again, I am grateful to live in a country where this dish is “just a normal, quick lunch on the go” for a dollar fifty. Absolutely amazing.
